Farouk Systems is Proud to be American!

Remember that catchy little Springsteen tune that swept the nation a few decades back?  The Boss’ “Born in the U.S.A.” has been playing on a continuous loop in our minds since we heard some important news from Farouk Systems

In efforts to prevent counterfeiting, reduce shipping costs, assist in building the struggling U.S. economy and maintain the reputation of the company’s products, Farouk Systems, Inc. founder Farouk Shami announces that all CHI® and BioSilk® irons and blow-dryers will be “Made in the U.S.A.  Effective immediately, all overseas manufacturing of the company’s products has ceased.

This past year, Farouk Systems has struggled with a counterfeiting crisis directly related to this overseas manufacturing.  The company enlisted a team of legal and investigative professionals worldwide to handle issues involving diversion and unauthorized product production, but the task was overwhelming.  By moving the production of Farouk Systems CHI® and BioSilk® irons and blow-dryers to its home base city of Houston, the team will now be able to maintain strict control over production, manufacturing and distribution.  This, notes Shami, is sure to eliminate the diversion and counterfeiting of these products.

What’s more, it’s no secret that the economy is tenuous.  Each day we are faced with rising prices, particularly in the areas of gasoline and oil.  Since Farouk Systems was shipping products from its overseas vendors by air, prices were skyrocketing.  In fact, according to Shami, the company’s shipping costs have nearly doubled over the past year, as air carriers raised fares in response to rising fuel costs.  Now these products will be right next door thanks to the fact that the new manufacturing site is adjacent to Farouk Systems Headquarters!

Products that are “Made in the U.S.A” are produced by the hard-working men and women living in this country.  According to the United States Labor Department, more than 930,000 American workers were laid off last year.  Manufacturing jobs accounted for more than a quarter of those layoffs.  By moving the manufacturing of these products from overseas to Houston, TX, Farouk Systems will be creating 1,000-2,000 jobs.  These new employees will be joining the 600 existing Houston-based employees, along with the 2,000 employed worldwide.  Shami is proud to be a pioneer--bringing manufacturing jobs back to America.
